Newshub18:The Taliban are introducing new uniforms for Afghan police.

Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban group on Wednesday unveiled a new uniform for its national police force, saying the move would lead the conflict-torn country to better security.

“In the first phase, 20,000 uniforms are being distributed among police forces in Kabul and Kandahar provinces,” Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Nafi Takor told a televised news conference in the Afghan capital, Kabul. That number will reach 100,000 in the next two weeks. ”

Since returning to power about 10 months ago, the Taliban have relied on security forces to maintain law and order and have come under constant criticism. Lack of police uniforms and lack of police training have encouraged men to engage in criminal activities or abuse of power.

While Deputy Home Minister Noor Jalal Jalali was speaking to reporters, some police officers in new uniforms lined up behind him. “The special uniforms you are seeing today will help us deal with security breaches and provide better security for our citizens,” he said.

The dark green uniform has the Taliban’s white flag with black Arabic letters that display the basic tenets of Islam on the sleeves, which reads “There is no god but Allah. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”

The radical Islamist group used the flag during its previous rule in Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001, when widespread human rights abuses and exclusion of women from public life. Despite this, only Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates recognized the Taliban government.
