The Supreme Court on Friday made some remarks in the hearing of a petition filed by Nupur Sharma, the temporarily expelled spokesperson of India’s ruling BJP. News from NDTV.Nupur Sharma was accused of making insulting remarks about the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in a television debate on May 26. Naveen Kumar Jindal, media chief of the BJP’s Delhi branch, also made derogatory remarks about the Prophet on Twitter.
The insulting remarks of these two BJP leaders caused a storm of condemnation and criticism at home and abroad. Muslims protest across India. The Arab and Muslim world reacted angrily. It was strongly condemned by at least 16 countries. In the face of fierce criticism, the BJP suspended Nupur Sharma and expelled Jindal.

Nupur Sharma’s lawyer has filed an FIR seeking transfer of the allegations surrounding her remarks to Delhi. He said Nupur Sharma was under threat and traveling anywhere was not safe for her now. In response, Justice Surya Kant said, “Is he under threat or has he become a security threat himself?” The way she has stirred up (religious) emotions across the country, this woman is solely responsible for what is happening in the country.
Justice Surya Kant said, ‘We have seen how he (Nupur Sharma) has provoked controversy. But the way he said the whole thing and later introduced himself as a lawyer is shameful. He should apologize to the whole nation. ‘
Referring to the Delhi Police and the television channel hosting the controversy, the Supreme Court bench asked, “What role has the Delhi Police played?” Don’t force us to open our mouths; What was the television debate about? To provoke an issue? Why did they set a precedent for debate? ‘
The Supreme Court also questioned the role of the police in the case. Pointing to those in power, the apex court said, “When you make an FIR against others, they are immediately arrested. When it is against you, no one else dares to touch you. ‘
Criticizing Nupur Sharma, the apex court further said that her “stubborn and arrogant behavior” was revealed through her remarks. Justice Surya Kant said that if she (Nupur Sharma) is the spokesperson of a party, then so be it. He thinks he has the support of the government and can make any statement without respecting the law of the land
