Newshub18 :That’s why ‘Lal Singh Chadha’ didn’t sell even in OTT.
Pushpa’, ‘RRR’ to ‘KGF Two’—big-budget, big-star films in India mean OTT platforms are entering the fray. Competition started as to who could buy the OTT rights of whose film. Aamir Khan’s ‘Lal Singh Chadha’ was also thought to be the same. However, in an interview given during the campaign before the release of the film, the actor said that he wants to release ‘Lal Singh Chadha’ in OTT six months after its theatrical release. That’s when the film’s chances of fetching higher prices on streaming platforms decrease. Because OTT platforms are not interested in releasing films after so many days of release. Still, there is no reason to think that ‘Lal Singh Chadha’ will fetch a very low price. Because, Aamir Khan’s film speaks.
But after the release of the film on August 11, all calculations changed. The film has practically failed at the box office. A week after its release, the film could not even touch the milestone of 50 crores, let alone 100 crores. Aamir’s last hope was the OTT platform. But the Indian media Bollywood Hungama reported that the attempt to sell ‘Lal Singh Chadha’ in OTT also failed. It is known that before the release of ‘Lal Singh Chadha’, discussions between Netflix and Aamir started. There is even progress in that discussion. At one stage, many were thinking that the agreement between Aamir and Netflix will be announced. But in the end their discussion collapsed.
According to Bollywood Hungama, the main reason behind the collapse of talks between Aamir Khan and Netflix is the sky-high pricing of ‘Lal Singh Chadha’. A source close to the talks said that Aamir Khan was very interested in giving the film to Netflix. Because the streaming site has more than 200 million subscribers worldwide. Aamir said his film will earn Rs 150 crore at the box office in the first few days; Will overturn many records. Apart from this, the film will be seen on OTT six months after its theatrical release. Amir was adamant about his position.
But Netflix wanted to release the film earlier. For ‘Lal Singh Chadha’, they asked for 80 to 90 crore rupees. However, Aamir said that the film will be released in China after India. He will then leave the film for OTT. When Netflix said that they would pay a maximum of 50 crores if released after six months, Aamir said that he will not sell below 125 crores. This is how the talks between the two sides collapsed.
This is not the end, after the release of the film, Netflix has said that they are no longer interested in ‘Lal Singh Chadha’. Not only Netflix, but also major OTT platforms are not interested in the film. A few platforms, including Bhoot, however, have approached Aamir to get the rights
