Former world number one Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from the Wimbledon tournament for the second year in a row due to an ankle injury.

Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, posted on Twitter, “My Achilles is not well yet, so see you tomorrow.”

Osaka did not specifically mention Wimbledon in the tweet, but the photo he posted included a picture of himself on a grass court and an emoji on a grass board.

In response to the Wimbledon tournament, Osaka was quoted as saying, “Get well soon @ Naomiosaka.”

The Japanese tennis star suffered Achilles problems in his opening match in Madrid last May, an injury that forced him to withdraw from the next Italian Open.

Osaka is now ranked 43rd in the world. Twice in 2016 and 2017, he reached the third round of Wimbledon. He will play for the last time in the 2019 tournament.

Starting on June 26, Wimbledon will see the return of 23-time major title winner Serena Williams. Serena has not been able to return to court since withdrawing from the All England Club last year due to injury
