India has strongly condemned the attack on Salman Rushdie in America. Apart from condemning the attack, India also wished Rushdie a speedy recovery. An assailant attacked Rushdie at a literary event in New York. After this, India gave the first response to this attack. Various countries of the world have protested the attack on the author. A statement has been made by the Ministry of External Affairs of India on Thursday.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi told a press conference on Thursday, “India has always stood against violence and extremism. Condemns the horrific attack on Salman Rushdie. And wish you a speedy recovery.” On August 12, an assailant attacked Rushdie, 75, on the stage of a theater in New York. Her name is Hadi Matar. The 24-year-old man has already been arrested by the New York police. Rushdie was stabbed repeatedly on the stage of that theatre. The veteran writer collapsed due to that blow. Immediately, the police took over the stage. He was immediately arrested. Rushdie suffered severe damage to one of his eyes.
After the publication of Rushdie’s ‘The Satanic Verses’, controversy raged. The book was widely criticized around the world. In 1989, the ruler of Iran, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, issued a fatwa. After that, Rushdie kept his head covered for a long time. The British police gave him security. After the recent attack on Rushdie, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken pointed the finger at Iran. Iran was allegedly behind the attack. However, Iran has said that they have nothing to do with Hadi Matar, who attacked Rushdie.
