Watergate is a hotel in Washington. There was the office of the Democrat National Committee. From the night of June 16, 1962, to June 17, 1982, five people were arrested at the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee in the Watergate Hotel and Office Complex. The eavesdropping device was recovered from them.
The next day, the Washington Post ran a major scandal on its front page. The news was a major blow to Republican President Richard Nixon’s re-election campaign.
